Ducks around Lake Firethorne

See All Posts

Due to the health and safety hazard associated with the large population of ducks around Lake Firethorne, the Board of Directors is having a professional contractor relocate the non-native Muscovy ducks in an effort to control the population. High density duck and waterfowl populations can cause reduced water quality, increased amounts of bacteria in the water, damaged landscaping, and contribute to soil erosion on the shoreline.

Please note that the native ducks, such as whistler ducks, are not allowed to be removed and will continue to congregate in large numbers if they are being fed by residents. Residents are encouraged to refrain from feeding the ducks to assist in controlling the population. Please see additional information from the Center for Disease Control.
